Your Dog Mushing / Cart Ride day begins right at your Fairbanks accommodation, so you don’t need to plan how to get to us and you will save additional taxi costs.
Free guest pickup from 6:30pm to 7pm.

 

In this 2-hour tour, we offer:

  • Dog Mushing History

The Sled Dog has shaped and supported the cultures of Alaska from the native peoples hundreds of years ago to the gold rushes of the 19th and 20th centuries. The breed was then typically 75-100 lbs and built for strength and stamina. They were mostly used to haul freight and passengers through the cold northern landscapes. Now Alaskan Huskies are widely varied. You will get to meet several examples of the types of Huskies that can be found in Alaska today as well as seeing how gear and equipment has evolved over the centuries.

 

  • Mushing School

Experience our Alaskan Sled Dog lifestyle hands on. The Mushing School is customized to focus on your particular area of interest in Alaska’s unique state sport. Participate fully or watch while we teach others. We start with an interactive display and demonstration of mushing gear from past to present. Guests are then paired with one of our friendly huskies to practice harnessing and hooking up to a sled. From there, your questions and comments will direct the focus of the Mushing School. Whether you want a broad overview of recreational mushing or prefer to learn more about the specifics of dog care, training, winter camping in -40F/C, etc., we want to answer your questions and satisfy your desire to learn.

 

  • Pioneer Musher Photo Opportunity

Once the dogs are harnessed and hooked up to the sled, you can dress in winter mushing gear and get on the sled for a fun photo! A $20 photo CD will be available for order that includes a digital print quality Black & White “pioneer” photo of you geared up with “your” dog team and a close-up made with your Husky training partner. In addition to photos from your tour with us, there are winter photos of our kennel, sled dogs, and guests who have joined us for our Winter Sled Dog Adventure Tours.

   

 

  • Combined with a thrilling half mile of dog mushing / cart rides

This is not just about the “ride” !! Our goal here is for you to be fully engaged and understand the passion and excitement that our huskies have for pulling. These dogs have been selectively bred for hundreds of years and the love for it flows deep and strong in their blood. As soon as we approach with harnesses in hand, the dog yard erupts. They know they are going for a run! You have never seen such happy excited dogs!! Stand clear and watch as we harness the dogs and hook up to the cart. Then share the thrill and power of these amazing animals as you buckle into your seat on the cart and we take off for a run!

 

Kennel Tour     $65.-

Tour groups of 6+ people can enjoy our 2-hour kennel tour with all the above described activities except the cart ride.
